Experiences at the Villa

You booked a whole house, not a hotel with a programme. Most days you will cook, swim and go to the beach on your own. But a few things are worth arranging before you come, and they all start with a message to Argyris.

Nothing on this page is booked or paid here. Argyris checks it for your dates and you agree it in writing before you travel.

How it works

Three steps, and none of them on this page

  1. Tell Argyris what interests youYour dates, how many of you, the ages of the children and what you would like. A sentence is enough.
  2. He checks it for your datesMost of this depends on the season, on who is free that week and on the villa. He asks, then he tells you what is possible.
  3. You agree it before you arriveWhat happens, when, who comes, what it costs and what you need to do. In writing, before you travel.
What can be arranged

Five things guests ask for

Villa Asteri: private chef cooking in the villa kitchen, on request.
On request

A private chef at the villa

A cook comes to the villa and cooks for your group in the kitchen or at the wood-fired oven. Usually one dinner during the stay: a birthday, the first night, the evening nobody wants to drive.

Tell Argyris: your dates, how many adults and children, which evening, and anything nobody eats.

Villa Myrrini: Cretan breakfast on the veranda.
On request

Groceries waiting in the kitchen

Send Argyris a shopping list and it can be in the kitchen when you open the door, so your first evening does not start in a supermarket. The final list is confirmed at least two days before you arrive.

Tell Argyris: your arrival time and the list — coffee, milk, water, wine, baby food, whatever you need on the first morning.

Olive oil tasting in the garden at Villa Asteri, on request.
On request

Olive oil tasting in the garden

Cretan extra virgin olive oils tasted side by side, with local bites, at the villa. It changes how you read a label for the rest of the trip.

Tell Argyris: your dates and how many of you, and whether children are joining.

Tasting Cretan wine in the garden – Villa Asteri
On request

Wine tasting at the villa

A guided tasting of Cretan wines from local grapes, with small plates, in the garden or by the pool. Adults only, and nobody should be driving afterwards.

Tell Argyris: your dates, how many adults, and whether you would like something to eat with it.

Villa Asteri: outdoor cooking area with BBQ and wood-fired oven.
On request

Cooking together

A cooking session at the villa: Cretan dishes, hands in the dough, then you eat what you made. It suits families with children and groups who want one afternoon that is not a beach.

Tell Argyris: your dates, how many of you, the ages of the children and whether anyone has a food allergy.

Ask about this

Every one of them is arranged for your dates. Duration, group size and cost are confirmed with you before anything is agreed, because they change with the season, the group and the villa.

Before you count on it

What we do not promise

  • Nothing here is booked from this page.

There is no basket and no payment on this site for any of it. You ask, Argyris checks, and you agree it in writing before you arrive.

  • Most of it is other people’s work.

The cook, the wine, the person who runs the tasting. They set their own availability, their price and their terms, and Argyris can only pass on what they confirm.

  • The experiences on request are not included in the villa price.

Unless it is written in your booking, an experience is extra and separate. The Cretan Breakfast Basket is the one thing that comes with every direct booking.

  • Allergies are a question, not a promise.

Tell us before you book anything with food in it. The provider answers about ingredients and cross-contamination; we do not answer for them, and we do not promise a kitchen free of anything.

  • Seasons matter more than you think.

Some of this is easy in June and difficult in January. Ask early, especially for a specific evening or a large group.

  • Nobody drives after a tasting.

Wine tasting is for adults, at the villa, and we will say so again when you book it.

The one thing you do not have to ask for

The Cretan Breakfast Basket comes with every direct booking, at every villa and for all dates, without a separate request or a minimum stay: olive oil, cheese, olives, bread, paximadi, jam, fruit and herbs from small Cretan producers. Contents and quantities vary with the season.

FAQ

Questions before you ask for one

How do I book one of these?

You do not book it here. Send Argyris your dates and what interests you, through the contact page or WhatsApp, and he will tell you whether it is possible for those dates and what it involves. He usually replies within 12 hours.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the experience, the number of guests, the season and the provider, so no price is published on this page. You get the cost in writing before you agree to anything.

How long before my stay should I ask?

As early as you can, and certainly not on the day. A private chef for a specific evening, or anything for a large group, needs the most notice. There is no fixed deadline that guarantees availability.

Is any of this included in the price of the villa?

No. The one thing that comes with every direct booking is the Cretan Breakfast Basket. Everything on this page is arranged separately and paid separately.

Can you cater for allergies or a special diet?

Tell Argyris before anything is arranged and he will put the question to the provider. The answer comes from the person cooking, not from us, and no kitchen can be promised free of an ingredient.

Can the children join?

For the chef and the cooking session, yes — tell us their ages. Wine tasting is for adults.

Can we do this at any of the four villas?

Yes. The private chef evening and the olive oil tasting take place at all four villas. For anything else, ask for the villa you have booked: Argyris will tell you straight if a villa is not right for it.

Do you arrange trips away from the villa, like a winery or a mill?

Sometimes, but nothing away from the villa is promised: it depends on the people who run the place, their opening times and how you would get there and back. Ask and we will tell you honestly what is realistic for your week.

Tell Argyris what you have in mind

Your dates, how many of you, the ages of the children and the thing you would like. He will tell you what is possible that week, what it involves and what it costs — or that it is not realistic, which is just as useful.
